Amber is fossil resin produced by different conifers (mainly Pinus succinifera) about 30 – 90 million years ago. At least since the Neolithic, amber from the North Sea was collected and traded by local tribes who sold their finds to other tribes. Since the specific gravity of amber is slightly heavier than water, pieces are hard to find. Somethimes you can find them on beaches but the better pieces are recovered buy fisherman. North Sea Amber is considered as amber of very high quality.
