Very spectacular and well preserved proximal caudal vertebra of an Apatosaurus with all details present.
This dinosaur is mostly known for tis long neck and long tail. Although one might think that the tail's principal purpose is to offer balance and support, it was actually a formidable weapon. Apatosaurus as all Diplodocids used its tail as a whip defending itself against the predatory dinosaurs of the time, such as Allosaurus. The tail consisted of 80 vertebrae, one of which is this one, perfectly interlocking.
The vertebra is coming with a custom made stand.
