EXTREMELY RARE FEATHER from the Crato Formation. There have been no birds found in the formation, which leads most to believe that these feathers are most likely from a feathered dinosaur!
The Crato Formation is a geologic formation of Early Cretaceous age in northeastern Brazil’s Araripe Basin. The strata were laid down mostly during the early Albian age, about 108 million years ago, in a shallow inland sea. Some 25 species of fossil fishes have been found but also fine examples of pterosaurs, reptiles and amphibians, invertebrates (particularly insects), and plants. Also dinosaurs are represented such as the Maniraptor described in 1996.
