Rare section of the skull of big Pteranodon in natural chalk matrix (as found). This is a part of a very big skull. Based on its size we are talking here of probably one of the bigger Pteranodons with a wing span of 20 ft (6,5 m) or more. The section is marked as B in the schematic drawing and represents the right Jugal and the condyle when the lower jaw connects to the skull.
As Pterosaur bones are hollow they are flattened during fossilisation. Pterosaur discoveries are rare, certainly when it comes to the bones belonging to the skull.
