This is a fine example of the Anshunsaurus huangguoshuensis, an Asian sister Thalattosaurus of the Askeptosaurus italicus from the southern Alpine Triassic site of Monte San Giorgio. It is rare to get hold of such reptile. The Thalattoaurus is very complete with only the tip of the tail missing. Exceptional in this fossil is the lateral fossilisation of the skull as most skulls are preserved ventral or dorsal. It provides a unique view of this prehistoric reptile. Further it is important to note the preservation of skin imprints on parts of the legs and body.
Thalattosaurus are also known as the Sea Dragon referring to the cartoon character used in the Disney movie The Little Mermaid.
